Kandy Kids’ charity work continues in Sri Lanka in 2017

After another successful year of fundraising in 2016, Steve O’Driscoll, founder of Kandy Kids, made his customary annual trip to Sri Lanka in January to oversee the spending of the money raised.

Once again, Steve travelled around the country visiting the various orphanages, children’s homes and other projects supported by his small, but effective, charity, which we are proud to support.

First on the list, was the Sunrise Children’s Home in Negombo, where Steve worked with the staff to arrange special meals and a beach party for the girls. As a follow-up to last year’s shoe rack project, every girl was also treated to a new pair of shoes. On top of this, Steve made sure that other essential maintenance supplies were purchased for the home.

Steve’s next stop was Kandy, where the charity supports several homes and also many individual families with children. His activities there included a couple more parties for the children at Sighiti Sevana and buying important items for the orphanage.

As usual, Steve made significant donations of food and medicine to the Daya Nivasa care home, where nuns and other volunteers look after more than 100 physically and mentally disabled children who have been abandoned by their parents. “Every visit to this amazing place is both emotional and inspirational”, explained Steve. “The selfless work being done here every single day of the year is truly moving and I am very happy to support them as much as I can”.

Steve spent his remaining time in Kandy visiting some of the local families who are suffering extreme hardship and stretched the Kandy Kids’ funds as far as they would go.
