Steve O’Driscoll, who runs our charity partner, Kandy Kids, has recently made another trip to Sri Lanka, visiting the orphanages and providing new equipment, clothes and food for the children.
Money raised by Kandy Kids during 2012 was used to build swings and a new play house for the younger children, as well as the development of an enclosed play area where the children can play safely.
For the older children, Kandy Kids paid for the improvement of their cricket pitch and provided new cricket equipment.
“It’s incredible how much we have achieved here this year”, said Steve. “The generosity of our supporters enables us to make a real difference to the lives of all the children and I am truly grateful to all of them for their contributions”.
Nineteen48 was very proud to have made a significant donation to Kandy Kids during 2012 and we fully expect to increase the amount we donate in 2013.
We were also very pleased to hear that Kandy Kids has been given permission to support another orphanage in the Kandy area. This is an impressive testament to the reputation that they have now established in the region. More details about that project will be coming soon.
