13Dec A Bumper Year for Nineteen48 and Kandy Kids
It has been a great year for Nineteen48’s fundraising efforts. Through various activities we have raised just under £2000 for our charity partner, Kandy Kids.
We work very closely with Kandy Kids and their co-founder, Steve O’Driscoll, keeps us fully updated on their plans for how they use the funds we raised.
Steve explained, “We are very grateful for the incredible support we have from Nineteen48 and everyone else who has contributed so generously during this year, without which nothing we do would be possible. Every year, we make more progress with our projects and we are able to help more children have a better start in life.”
In early 2014, the charity plans to build an enclosed play area for the orphanage at Tikiri Sevana, so that the children there can play safely outdoors. It’s a relatively simple project, but one which will have a very positive impact on their lives. Steve is also aiming to provide some new toys and, for the many young babies, the target is to donate a supply of nappies for the entire year (you can imagine how many that will be!).
At Sarana Sevana, the charity is going to build some new swings and perform some maintenance work on the cricket pitch that was made during Steve’s trip to Sri Lanka last year. The orphans at Sarana will also receive a significant contribution of food and other essential supplies.
Similarly, the children’s home at Sighiti Sevana will benefit, with Steve arranging some activities for the children and donating not only food, but also key items to help them on a day-to-day basis. It is often the small things that are needed the most and make a big difference for many children.
Also on Steve’s to-do list for 2014 is to investigate the possibility of Kandy Kids helping a new school for disabled children and extending their good work to a new organisation. Watch this space…
Everyone at Nineteen48 and Kandy Kids would like to thank you for your custom and your support, which has enabled us to continue the good work in Sri Lanka.
