This hands-on workshop will give you a solid introduction to the fascinating world of gemstones, from how gems are formed and their different properties to responsible sourcing, traceability and the journey a gemstone takes from mine to market.
You’ll learn how gemmologists identify gemstones, get hands-on with some of the key tools used for testing and analysis, and have the chance to examine and compare a wide variety of stones. The day will also cover diamonds, including production, grading, valuation and what to consider when buying both diamonds and coloured gemstones.
No previous gemmology knowledge is needed, so it’s ideal for complete beginners as well as jewellers and makers who want to better understand the materials they work with.
Everything you need for the workshop is provided, including a gemstone reference book to take home - just bring something for making notes and plenty of gemstone enthusiasm!
