Nineteen48’s American gemstones come almost exclusively from miners who take part in the Miners' Collective Gem Show, part of the annual Tucson Gem Fair in Arizona.

These dedicated rockhounds work their own mining claims across various regions of the United States and often cut and polish their own cabochons from the materials they find.

Gem mining in the USA generally falls into the category of artisanal and small-scale mining (ASM). However, compared to many countries, American miners often have better access to financing, allowing them to employ more mechanisation than their counterparts elsewhere.
