Nineteen48 is a Community Interest Company (CIC)

Nineteen48 is registered as a Community Interest Company (CIC).

A Community Interest Company is a special type of business entity established to benefit the wider community. Unlike a traditional company that exists primarily to generate profit for shareholders, a CIC uses its activities to create positive social impact while operating as a sustainable business.

One notable feature of a CIC is called the Asset Lock. This means that any assets held by the company are dedicated to the community objective and cannot be distributed to the private owners.

For Nineteen48, being a CIC means promoting and supporting responsible gemstone sourcing, encouraging greater transparency within the gemstone industry and helping to create positive opportunities for artisanal miners, gem cutters and gemstone-producing communities.
