Moyo Gems, Tanzania

Sourced through our partner, Moyo Gems

🤝 Responsibly sourced through Nineteen48's trusted supply chain

This large citrine from Tanzania has a funky shape and is destined for a piece of jewellery that will make an impression.

The gemstone was responsibly mined by a member of the Tanzanian Women Miners' Association (TAWOMA) in the Tanga region of north-eastern Tanzania as part of the Moyo Gemstones project. It comes from an artisanal mine and is traceable back to the individual miner.

This gem was cut and polished at our dedicated cutting workshop in Sri Lanka. The gemstone has some inclusions, but they add to its character and give it some extra sparkle.

This is an excellent choice if you are looking for a fully traceable gemstone that is a bit out of the ordinary.

This gem has not been treated in any way.

Almost all of our citrine is sourced from the artisanal miners of the Moyo Gems project in Tanga, north-east Tanzania.

Occasionally, we obtain citrine from our small network of artisanal mines in Sri Lanka.

All of our citrine is natural and not treated in any way to affect the colour or clarity. It does not come from amethyst that has been heat treated.

Moyo Gems is a pioneering, miner-to-market, gemstone collaboration in East Africa.

Nineteen48 is one of the commercial partners working with the women artisanal gem miners and their male allies in Tanzania and Kenya to deliver their gemstones to the international market.

We source our Moyo Gems specificially from miners in various communities in the Tanga region in north-east Tanzania, all of whom are members of the Tanzanian Women Miners' Association (TAWOMA).
